In natural conversation, people say "umm," "uh," "like," and "you know" frequently. While accurate to the audio, these filler words make written transcripts difficult to read and look unprofessional in subtitles.
With a single click, you can strip these disfluencies from your text.
How Filler Word Removal Works
scribeme.ai uses context-aware natural language processing to differentiate between a filler word and a word used in context (e.g., distinguishing between "I, like, went to the store" and "I like going to the store").
When enabled, the system automatically removes:
- Umms and ahs
- Stutters and repeated words
- Common crutch phrases ("you know," "I mean")
- False starts (sentences that are abandoned halfway through)
Enabling Auto-Removal
You can apply filler word removal after the transcript has been generated.
- Open your transcript in the Interactive Editor.
- Click the Clean Up magic wand icon in the top toolbar.
- Select Remove Filler Words.
- The editor will highlight all detected filler words in light gray and cross them out.
- Click Apply Changes to permanently remove them from the text.
[!NOTE] Removing filler words only alters the text transcript and subtitle exports. It does not delete the audio from the original media file.
Reverting Changes
If the AI removed a word you wanted to keep:
- Press Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (Mac) immediately to undo the bulk action.
- Alternatively, click the Version History icon to restore the original, unedited transcript.
